Dr. Gul-e-Erum, DDS, FRCDC

“Your smile is more than a set of teeth. It’s an expression of who you are. Let’s make it brilliant together.”

Dr. Gul-e-Erum is a Canadian Board-Certified Orthodontist and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. An orthodontist is a dental specialist who has completed years of additional training focused entirely on the alignment of teeth and jaws — so every treatment plan you receive is guided by that specialist expertise.

She founded Gul Orthodontics to give families in Pickering and across the GTA a calmer, more personal experience: unhurried consultations, honest guidance, and care tailored to each person’s goals, comfort, and stage of life.

Our philosophy

Care that treats the person, not just the smile

We believe the best orthodontic experiences are calm, clear, and personal. That means taking time to listen, explaining your options in plain language, and building a plan that fits your life.

We listen first

Every plan starts with your goals and concerns — not a one-size-fits-all script.

Clear, honest guidance

Transparent timelines and costs, with the pros and cons of each option explained.

Comfort matters

Gentle, modern techniques and a welcoming space for every age.

Orthodontic options for every age and goal

Treatment timelines below are typical ranges only. Your personalised plan and estimate are confirmed at your free consultation, and individual results vary.

Invisalign & clear aligners

A series of clear, removable trays that gradually guide teeth into place. They’re nearly invisible and can be taken out to eat, drink, and brush, which many teens and adults appreciate. Aligners work best when worn 20–22 hours a day and may not suit every case — we’ll let you know honestly whether they’re a good fit for you.

Typical treatment: 12–18 months for many adults

Traditional metal braces

Reliable and effective for a wide range of cases, from simple to complex. Today’s brackets are noticeably smaller and more comfortable than those of years past. Metal braces are often the most cost-effective option and a popular choice for children and teens.

Typical treatment: 18–24 months

Ceramic braces

These work just like metal braces but use tooth-coloured brackets that blend in for a more discreet appearance. They’re a great middle ground for patients who want fixed braces with a subtler look, and they benefit from good day-to-day care to stay looking their best.

Typical treatment: similar to metal braces

Children’s orthodontics (early / Phase 1)

The Canadian and American Associations of Orthodontists suggest a first orthodontic check-up around age 7. Early treatment can guide jaw growth and create room for permanent teeth, which may reduce the complexity of treatment later. Not every child needs early treatment — often the best first step is simply monitoring, and we’ll always tell you if waiting is the right call.

First check-up recommended around age 7

Teen orthodontics

The teenage years are a common and effective time for treatment. We offer both braces and clear aligners, and we’ll help your teen choose an option that fits school, sport, and social confidence — along with tips for keeping everything clean and comfortable.

Braces & clear aligner options available

Adult orthodontics

There’s no age limit for a healthier, more confident smile. Many adults choose discreet options like Invisalign or ceramic braces that work around a busy professional life. Because adult treatment can sometimes take a little longer, we’ll set clear expectations from the start.

Discreet options designed for adult lifestyles

Retainers & keeping your results

Finishing active treatment is just the beginning of a lifelong smile. Retainers help protect your results, and we’ll guide you on how and how long to wear yours. Caring for your smile is a long-term commitment, and we’re here to support you through it.

Removable and fixed options

Not sure which option is right for you?

That’s exactly what a free consultation is for. We’ll assess your smile and walk you through the choices — clearly and without obligation.
